Discharge/Off With Their Heads 7"
Limited edition of 1000 copies! This is a bit of a heavyweight split 7inch from two contrasting bands - Off With Their Heads and Discharge. I put the record on wondering if Discharge had decided that enough was enough and it was about time they mellowed out and wrote some more melodic stuff but then realised that the labels on this record were mixed up. Dependent on which way around your version is, Discharge take the A side with "Legacy You Left Behind". It's more of their angry hardcore and they are absolutely livid on this track, make no mistake. They are in intense mood but I could do without the guitar soloing towards the end in particular. Then again, if you like Discharge already I'm sure you'll be very into this track and are unlikely to be disappointed - unless you own their last album...as the same version of this song was already on there. Off With Their Heads make a bit more effort on their side of the record and have recorded a new song. I've always kind of liked them but never get much past thinking "They're alright" and their track "Never Run" is more of the same for me. It's a decent melodic punk song and feels a bit more raw and live than usual. This will be partly due to the different line-up on the recording and also that it's written by the singer from The Beltones. Mike Watt is playing bass here and the drummer is from Toys That Kill so it's not really Off With Their Heads apart from the singer/guitarist. That's not unusual for them seeing as the line-up is often rotated on tours It's not that different to the rest of their back catalogue though and still has their typical sound.
